FAQ

Help, I can't find/lost my order in my emails!

First thing to try is to log into your account with us and see if you can find it in your order history. You should be able to download files of all your past orders from your account. If you did not make an account when you ordered, you can always create one using the email address you used to purchase your patterns. If you've done this and there's still no orders in your account, it's likely you used a different email address or there was a typo in the email address when you purchased your patterns. Please contact me and I will do my best to find any missing orders.

Help, I can't log in, it says my info is incorrect!

Chances are you have this issue because you did not actually create an account with us. Purchasing something does not automatically create an account unless you selected that option at checkout, you must create one using the email address you used to purchase your patterns. If you try to create a new account and it says that the account already exists, you might need to reset your password.

Help, my password reset email isn't coming through!

Are you 100% sure that you have an account? Again, purchasing something does not automatically create an account, so you may have to create one.

Damn, I accidentally bought the same item twice, can I get a refund?

As per our refund policy, there are no refunds for digital items, so make sure you check your cart closely before purchase. If you send me an email, I can add a credit to your account for a future purchase though! (Just make sure you have an account with us first--refer to above questions if unsure!)

Where can I find the videos?

Some videos will be linked in the description of the main pattern listings, or to find all the ones available, please use the search function on YouTube.

Is this pattern beginner-friendly?

With any new skill, there's always a learning curve. I try to somewhat accurately rate my patterns for general skill levels, but the truth of the matter is that nobody can tell you what you can or can't do except yourself. That's why there are videos available for each pattern I release (check the listing descriptions or search for them on Youtube), because watching someone else make it is the best indicator I can think of to judge whether you think you can do those things yourself.

Do you have this particular design I'm looking for?

I'm a fairly new patternmaker, so I only have the designs that are currently in the shop right now, though new designs are being added quite often, so check back every now and again or subscribe to our newsletter! Look at the add-ons closely because some designs are easy to miss or may not be where you expect. For example, there is a deer in the Wild Wonders add-on but not in the Jolly Jamboree add-on. I will never be creating any designs using trademarked characters (Grinch, Despicable Me minions, etc.).

Help, I can't open my files!/What are ZIP files?

The Hugo Handbag involves a lot of folders and files due to the nature of the designs. So you don't have to download 73 individual files every time you place an order, I've compressed them all into a .zip file. Every computer from the 21st century will be able to open these. (If you keep getting notices about some program called WinRAR wanting payment or some such, uninstall that program because it sucks and you don't need it.) Mobile devices are a bit inconsistent with their ability to open these so I recommend hopping on your (or a loved one's) computer to get access to your files. Extract the files first to use the SVG files with your cutting machine, because you can print PDF files that are zipped but you can't work with SVG files that are zipped.

What's an SVG file?

SVG files are files used for cutting machines such as Cricuts, Silhouettes, etc. I always provide complimentary SVG files with all my designs, but if you don't have one, you can ignore them, as everything is also optimised for hand-cutting using the provided PDFs. Because I always cut my own patterns by hand, I try to ensure that specialty equipment isn't mandatory for any of my designs. Please note: The PDFs are not meant to be compatible with your cutting machine software and the SVGs are not designed to be printed.

I'm missing a file in my order!

I guarantee you are not, please redownload your order and check again, because you may have unwittingly deleted something in the unzipping process. If you've lost your original download file, please make an account to access it (refer to first three questions on this page).

Do I need an industrial machine to sew these?

The simple answer is no. The more complicated answer is some designs would benefit from having an industrial, but can be sewn on certain non-industrial machines. Not all sewing machines are made equal and there’s a great difference between a Janome HD and a Singer Start. I do not own an industrial machine. All my bag designs are created and tested using genuine leather (which is thicker than most vinyls) on my Singer 201k, so anything you see on this site can be made on machines with the equivalent strength of a vintage domestic.

Something something imperial units.

I'm Australian, so measurements listed in my patterns are metric. All pattern pieces are provided as PDF and SVG files so you will rarely need to convert anything though, whether you're printing the pattern or using a cutting machine--Maybe occasionally a shoulder strap or distance between points. But yes, 10mm=1cm=3/8" is the standard seam allowance. There are a million unit converters online that will help you with any other metric measurement that you come across.

Can I sell my finished bags at markets, online, etc.?

The answer is yes! So long as you are not selling the pattern itself and just bags that you have made from the pattern, go for it. I'd be tickled pink if you tagged them with their relevant hashtag on social media and credited the pattern to Carbon Chic Patterns but this is not something I can/will police.

Do you sell gift cards?

We do! Keep in mind they are listed in USD, so depending on where you are in the world, the purchase price in your cart might not match the amount listed on the card. For quick reference, $10USD can buy a Hugo Handbag add-on, $15USD can buy a Hugo Handbag base pattern and some change, $25USD can buy both the base pattern and an add-on, and so on.
